Loreto Regatta 14th November

All Ruyton crews made their way to the Barwon on Saturday 14th November for the first Schools Regatta of the season. For the record number of new Year 8s involved, this was their first opportunity to experience the excitement and nervous tension of inter-school competition, where just making it to the start line before the race can be a challenge, let alone steering a straight line down the course to the finish line. Suffice to say that it is early days and the girls will improve on their results.

MAD Regatta and Prow-Am

Final preparations are being made for the MAD Regatta and Prow-Am. This year’s event will be staged on the Yarra River rather than the Maribyrnong, following the decision of our former co-hosts Genazzano to go it alone this year. We believe that the end result will be to Ruyton’s advantage with improved accessibility for spectators and reduced need for boat transport across to the other side of town. Girls from Loreto and Korowa will also be involved in a mini-regatta with Ruyton. Many current Ruyton student rowers will have the opportunity to row with the same Australian elite rowers whom we were lucky enough to recruit in 2008. Ruyton families are invited to make their way to the banks of the Yarra near Swan Street between 8am and 1pm to witness what we hope will be a very happy morning of rowing, culminating in the Principal’s Cup, which as always will be a hotly contested race between the President’s crew, Director of Rowing’s crew and Principal’s crew.

Boat Christening

Our 4 new single sculls will be christened on the morning of Saturday 5th December at 9am under the Moreton Bay Figtree at school.

Summer Camps

A number of summer rowing camps will be held during the school holidays at venues as diverse as Paynesville and the Yarra.
