POR Parents of Ruyton

POR Presidents Report – Annual General Meeting 2010

The Parents of Ruyton has had a very busy and enjoyable year building community relations within the School. We have a dedicated group of interested parents who assist and manage our POR Support Groups and who participate in membership of the POR Committee. We pay tribute to and thank these wonderful volunteers. The structure of the POR is important is supporting current parents and in welcoming new families to the School.

The Second-Hand Uniform Sale (SHUS) and the Second-Hand Book Sale (SHBS) provided two important services to parents at the end of Term 4. The POR are indebted to the two Co-ordinators, Jo-Anne Sibree for Uniforms and Fiona Marsh for Books, and their hard working sub-committee members for their proficiency and dedication.

The POR was proud to be able to provide each Year 12 student with a framed photo of the Ruyton Moreton Bay Fig. We thank the Year 12 Co-Captains and the POR Committee for their help in the selection of this gift and hope it will be a lasting reminder of the girls' time at Ruyton.
2010 also marked the establishment of the inaugural POR Junior School Prize for Academic Effort and Improvement to be presented to a Year 6 student. The POR look forward to many years of presenting this prize in the Junior School.
The POR also organised the final event of Term 4, the Junior School Disco. It was a great way for the Junior School girls to finish off their School year. The POR provided the entertainment and a snack, while the cover charge was donated to a charity. This year the nominated charity was The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
The POR has accumulated funds over the previous years through a variety of events and activities. This year the POR was able to contribute $15,000 to the Ruyton Community Scholarship, and, in addition donated $10,000 towards the Junior School Centre for Creativity.

Parents have continued to volunteer in the Courtyard Café this year, and their time and effort is greatly appreciated. On occasion, the Courtyard Cafe has funded the provision of an extra staff member to cover a volunteer shortfall.

We are indebted to the Director of Development, Mrs Caroline Creese, who has taken on the role of Staff Liaison from Term 2 this year. It has been a pleasure to work with her and we wish her well in her new role outside Ruyton next year. We also thank our retiring Chair of Year Level Representatives, Mrs Donna De Bortoli. Donna has done a fantastic job over the last two years welcoming all parent volunteers in their roles as Year Level Representatives and assisting them in their duties. Mrs Elizabeth Maclean has retired from her role as Inter-school Liaison Group (ISLG) representative and we thank her for her work in representing Ruyton so well. POR past president Mrs Karina Woolrich has offered to take on this position for 2011.Finally, our thanks are extended to all the Support Staff at Ruyton, and, in particular, the team in South House for their help.

Mrs Ruth Wirtz and Ms Sue Sloan POR Co-Presidents

Administrator’s Report

This has been another year where the hard work of the POR has contributed to many successful events in the School calendar.

The Book sale is always an enormous feat of organisation but provides a valuable service to our community. Both the Mothers' and Fathers' day breakfasts were 'sell-out' events, and the introduction of a raffle at the Fathers' Day breakfast ensured we raised over $1,800. The combined profit for the two events was $2,500. As a result of all the POR events this year we have been able to donate $15,000 to the Community Scholarship fund and $10,000 to the Centre for Creativity.

Thanks go to all the hard working members of the POR Committee, and to the Co-Presidents, Ruth Wirtz and Sue Sloan, for their invaluable guidance.

Mr. Maurice Zajonc POR Administrator
