Ruyton Athletic Inc
The Club was established in 2007 and is now into its fourth year. The school has an outstanding running programme in both cross country and track and field and has excelled in both disciplines over a number of years, under the leadership of our Head Coach, Mr. Stephen Ellinghaus.
The key reason for the Club’s formation and its primary purpose is to provide our girls with the opportunity to continue to train and compete for an athletic club under the Ruyton banner, during the period not covered by the School’s programme.
There is also a category of membership for girls who do not want to train to compete but who wish to participate in the training program with the aim of keeping fit and participating in ‘fun runs’.
We are very fortunate to have Stephen Ellinghaus as our Head Coach. With his team of coaches the Club provides a vehicle for our girls to participate, enjoy and excel in their chosen sport, with the dual benefit of enhancing the profile of our school in the broader athletic and general community.
It is pleasing that our membership numbers have continued to grow and there beinghas been an increase in competing members. Our financial position is sound.
Ruyton Athletic has completed another very successful season with our girls competing each weekend during the summer at Inter Club competitions at Ringwood, Doncaster and Box Hill. It culminated at the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships where we had a record number of girls competing – McKenzie Casey, Sarah Clements, Grace Kalac, Steph Larkin, Georgie Meehan Jess Mourney, Sophie Perry, Natalie Rule and Kate Walker. We achieved outstanding results, comprising:
1. 3 Gold Medals (Sarah Clements, Natalie Rule)
2. 2 Silver Medals (Jess Mourney, Sophie Perry) and
3. 1 Bronze Medal (Georgie Meehan).
and in all ten top five finishes (McKenzie Casey, Steph Larkin, Kate Walker).
We look forward to next season and continuing to enhance the profile of our School by providing the girls with the opportunity to train and compete under the Ruyton banner.
